25 Jan 08 Asus EEE En Route!

I have gotten to the point of needing another laptop, and I've been hearing so much about the EEE.

I decided to give it a shot.

When I received the shipment notification from the retailer (J & R Electronics), I logged into the UPS tracking website to see where it was and when it was scheduled for delivery - Friday, January 25, 2008.

So I just logged in this morning to see if I could get details on ETA, and low and behold, this was one of the entries:

Hodgkins, IL, US 01/24/2008 4:00 A.M. The package is delayed due to a train derailment

I almost fell off my chair! The updated arrival date is for next Monday. A bummer, but not much one can do about this.

After having this machine I’ve got a thing or two to say. If you’re on the computer a lot, invest in a better machine!

Its great as a novelty and for lightweight internet use, but its barely enough horsepower to run a youtube video and the screen and keys are so tiny that it becomes tedious and cumbersome to use. The solid state would appear to be a benefit, the boot up time is reasonable but the time it takes to launch applications makes it feel like an antique. Hopefully the revised models that being released by Asus help address these issues, and it would work fine for certain business uses where hardware cost is an issue.
